Children Go Where I Send You (2012)
Documentary - 37min - Producer/Editor
The film tells the story of Rosenwald Schools in rural Hertford County in Northeastern North Carolina.
Between 1912 and 1932 over 5000 of these mostly one and two room schools for the education of African Americans were built all over the Southern United States. North Carolina had over 800 of them.
Today only 4 of 10 are left standing in this poverty stricken County half way between the Great Dismal Swamp and Interstate 95. First hand accounts of students and teachers from these schools take us back into a time, when schools were local, and education was seen as a community effort.
The film premiered at the North Carolina Family Film Festival 2012, was invited to the 100 anniversary Rosenwald Conference of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and won "Best Documentary Short" at the Ava Gardener Independent Film Festival 2012
